10 EXCUSES NOT TO WORK

1

I like working. It keeps me going everyday. Every time I wake up in the morning, I look forward to check-off my to-do list. Being an entrepreneur gives me the freedom to choose the business I get into, the projects I accept and the people I work with. And yes, I also get to choose the time and days I work.

But there is also a downside, because I am the captain of the ship, there are troubles or important decisions that only I can handle. No matter what time it is, even if its already 11pm in the evening, or even if its a Sunday or a no work day for many, I will need to take care of the problem!

But there are just days I don’t feel like working. Here are the times or days that I don’t work:

(1) Family Vacations. I tell my staff “you’re on your own, call me only when its an emergency. Otherwise, make the decision”.

Then I don’t work for the rest of the day. (Ok you got me, sometimes I do answer a few of my emails, but that’s it!)

(2) Wife and Kid’s Birthdays, Christmas, New Year, etc.

(3) Special Anniversaries... Monthsaries, a term that only exist in the Philippines, is not counted!

(4) Graduation or Recognition Days

(5) After I land or close a big sale! Yes, I do reward myself with relaxation. (Celebrate success!)

(6) My Kid’s Soccer Tournament... I want my son to know that I am his fan!

(7) I don’t work when I need to rethink or reflect about the direction of my business or family.

(8) When my wife is sick. Better to stay at home, help out and provide what she needs.

(9) When I’m not feeling so well. I’m sure you know the feeling, you are not that sick, but you just feel like sitting on the couch, in front of the TV, you insert a dvd, you bring out the potato chips and iced orange juice. Its going to be a marathon alright.

(10) When there is nothing to do. When all is going well. All is done. (happens maybe once or twice a year?)

i try not to work on sundays. Isaiah 58:13-14 is an awesome promise from God and i believe that when we truly set apart the Lord's day as holy and a time of worship and rest then unique blessings come our way.
